The Nigerian Society Engineers (NSE) and the Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (NIQS) are to form a strong alliance purposely to step-up professional practice favourably in the country. This was the subject of discussions today, Tuesday, May 3, 2017, when President of NSE, Engr. Otis Anyaeji, FNSE, FAEng paid a courtesy call on the President of NIQS, Mrs. Mercy Iyortyer, FNIQS in Abuja.

Speaking during the visit, Anyaeji said there was an urgent need for collaborations between the two professional bodies for the purpose of exploring the abundant opportunities in the construction industry. He also regretted the deliberate scheming of professionals out of project executions adding that, both professionals needed to join forces with a view to assuming their rightful position through talks with government on the matter.

“The Professionals need to work together to confront government and to help achieve cost effectiveness in projects” He said.

The President canvassed the setting up of a platform through which the idea can be affected.

Similarly, the President of NIQS, Mrs. Mercy Iyortyer, FNIQS endorsed the idea and assured of the cooperation of the NIQS saying that the alliance will enable both Engineers and Quantity Surveyors to make a mark in their practice.

As part of the effort, a Four Man Adhoc Committee with two members drawn from both NSE and NIQS will be set up to fashion out the details of the proposal.
