Engr. Ali Alimasuya Rabiu, who was born on the 24th of April, 1963 in Lafia, Nasarawa State, attended Bayero University, Kano in Kano State from where he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering and a Master’s in Business Administration (MBA). He is a COREN registered Engineer and a Fellow of Nigerian Society of Engineers (FNSE), Fellow of American Society of Civil Engineers (F.ASCE), Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Engineering (FAEng), Fellow of Nigerian Institution of Civil Engineers (FNICE), Fellow, Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), Fellow of the Academy of Natural Sciences and Engineering (FANSEN), Member, Nigerian Water & Sanitation Association (MNIWASA), Member, Association of Consulting Engineers, Nigeria (ACEN), a recipient of the National Honour of the Member of the Order Federal Republic of Nigeria (MFR), among others.

For his many contributions to the community and his novel works in his home State of Nasarawa, he was honoured with the traditional title of Cigarin Lafia by the Late Emir of Lafia, HRH Alh. Isa Mustapha Agwai 1. He is a recipient of various professional awards and recognitions.
He has held some key positions such as: Member, Presidential Monitoring Team on DFRRI Rural Water and Sanitation Programme, Sokoto and Kebbi States; Consultant/Member, House of Representatives Adhoc Committee on the investigation of flooding of the Goronyo Dam, Sokoto State; Member, Governing Council, Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, Kano State; Chairman, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Kano Branch; Chairman, Technical Committee to assess the damages/loses caused by fire outbreak at the Muhammadu Abubakar Rimi Market, Kano State, to mention a few.
Engr. Rabiu has a robust professional career in engineering, spanning over thirty (30) years, which include service in various administrative and managerial capacities in the public and private sectors. Some of the positions he has held include: Executive Partner, AR–AR Partnership, a Consulting Engineering firm; Senior Engineer, Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital Project; Project Coordinator, Bayelsa State Infrastructural Development Programme; Project Manager, Hotoro South Erosion Control Project, Kano State; Project Manager, Oforachi Irrigation Project, Kogi State; Project Manager, World Bank–Assisted Nasarawa State Community-Based Urban Development Project, Karu; Project Director, Nasarawa State Massive Programme on Road Construction, amongst others.
He has been involved in the design and supervision of several bridges, roads, concrete structures, water supply schemes, small dams, flood and erosion control works, environmental sanitation projects and community development programmes across the country.
SERVICE
He held several leadership positions within the Kano Branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), culminating in his emergence as Branch Chairman in 2006. He also served three consecutive terms as a Vice President of the NSE, with responsibilities spanning management, policy formulation, and the professional development of members of the Society.
Engr. Rabiu was nominated by the Nasarawa State Government in April 2016 to represent the North Central Geo-political Zone on the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). He was subsequently elected President of COREN in 2019. A dedicated and purpose-driven leader, he demonstrated exceptional administrative acumen and played a pivotal role in strategic stakeholder engagement for the new COREN Act, 2018, securing widespread support from engineering practitioners across the country. He also advanced several inherited projects and initiatives, including the pursuit of COREN’s admission into the International Engineering Alliance as a signatory to the Washington Accord. Under his leadership, COREN evolved into a multifaceted institution renowned for its operational efficiency and enhanced regulatory capacity; a transformation that earned it board representations across several organisations.
COMMUNITY LEVEL
At the community level, Engr. Rabiu was appointed Chairman of the Visitation Panel to Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia, in October 2023 by His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State, Engr. Abdullahi A. Sule, FNSE. He successfully completed the assignment and the Panel’s recommendations, some of which were implemented by the State Government, helped to resolve the protracted crisis in the institution.
He was elected as the Deputy President of the Society for a two-year tenure in November, 2023 and served as the Chairman, Finance and Budget Board for the period. He assumed office as the 35th President of the Nigerian Society of Engineers on January 1, 2026.
